The timing is what gives the story its weight. Zimmerman, 26, was on his Different Night Same Rodeo tour when he told fans on May 27 that he had not been feeling well and needed to reschedule that night’s show in Albuquerque and his May 30 date, saying all tickets would be honored for the new dates. The arrest warrant that followed nearly three weeks later turned a missed concert into a criminal case that now hangs over the rest of the tour.
That gap between his explanation and the allegations is the part that will follow him. Zimmerman told fans he was trying to power through and needed time to recover, but security at the hotel said he appeared drunk through the evening, and authorities said he was stumbling, falling, acting belligerently during sound check, and throwing equipment around onstage. The resort kicked him out, he allegedly refused to leave in a bus provided by the resort, and the hotel called police before he was escorted off the property.
By the time housekeeping reached the room, it was destroyed.
