The picture turns a hidden corner of Orion into a layered map of color and motion, with glowing clouds, dark dust and bright streaks all packed into one frame.

The image is getting attention now because it shows more than a pretty nebula. OMC-2 sits 1,280 light-years away in the constellation Orion, just south of the Orion Nebula, and the new view gives a close look at a stellar nursery while that region is still actively building stars. In the scene, layered clouds of gas and dust glow in blue, green and yellow, while thick clumps of colder dust turn dark brown to black and block light completely.
