For the people affected, the number mattered because the outage was not a brief flicker. Power was off for all 1,916 customers in the Clovis area as crews inspected the electrical system, looked for damaged sections and made repairs needed to safely bring service back.
The outage was being tracked as an active event, which meant the lights stayed off while the work continued. PG&E said the cause was still under investigation, and no restoration time had been determined.
That left customers with a simple answer and one missing piece: the outage was unplanned, the repairs were underway, and the clock on restoration had not yet started. Until the damaged section is found and fixed, the shutdown remains open-ended for everyone hit Thursday.
