Dua Lipa married Callum Turner in Sicily, Italy, on Saturday, June 6, then shared the first images of her wedding gown the same day. The singer posted the look on Instagram after the ceremony, giving the first clear glimpse of a custom Chanel haute couture dress designed for her by Matthieu Blazy.
The gown was built for drama: a long, fully embroidered veil and a voluminous train covered in feathers. That reveal answered the question that had been following the wedding for weeks, because the fashion crowd had been guessing which house would dress her for the main event. Lipa had already shown a different bridal look for the civil ceremony in London the week before, wearing a custom Schiaparelli haute couture skirt suit with golden bijoux buttons, custom Christian Louboutin stilettos, white gloves and a bespoke hat by Stephen Jones. Turner wore a bespoke suit by Maximilian Davis for Ferragamo.
By the time the Sicilian celebration arrived, the wedding had become more than a private milestone. The welcome party on June 5 brought Mark Ronson and Grace Gummer, Charli xcx, Troye Sivan, Joe Alwyn and Donatella Versace to a palazzo, while the main ceremony was held at Villa Valguarnera, an 18th century palace first commissioned in 1712 by Anna Gravina, Princess of Gravina and Valguarnera. The estate sits above the Gulf of Palermo, and the event was reported to have cost around $1.73M, a figure that appears to cover the closely staged multi-day run of ceremonies and parties rather than just one dress or one room.
That scale was part of the friction. The celebration was tightly guarded, but local residents were reported to have been unhappy about the takeover of their city, pointing to road closures and other disruptions. One local said it was “not right to block the city,” while another said he could understand it if it were for the pope, “but not for a singer.” It is a sharp reminder that a wedding this exclusive can still spill into public life, even when the couple tries to keep the ceremony out of view.
For now, the most consequential detail is already public: Lipa chose Chanel for the dress that marked the main ceremony, and she chose to reveal it herself. The rest of the wedding may stay behind the gates of Villa Valguarnera, but the image she posted made sure the moment could not stay private for long.
