ANAS closed about 100 metres of the SS 145 Sorrentina in Sorrento on 19 June 2026 after trees on private land were found overhanging the roadway. The provisional shutdown covered the stretch between km 36,100 and km 36,200, on both sides of traffic, in correspondence with via Nastro Azzurro in Sorrento.
The move matters immediately because the SS 145 Sorrentina is a key road link and the closure forced drivers onto detours the same day. Traffic coming from Sorrento was sent onto the strada provinciale 7 and then back to the SS 145 Sorrentina at km 35,900, at the junction of Sant’Agata sui due Golfi. Vehicles arriving from Positano or from the SS163 Amalfitana and heading to Napoli or Sorrento were directed onto the SS163 toward Piano di Sorrento.
The order came on the indication of the Vigili del Fuoco, who intervened on site, and Anas and the Forze dell’Ordine were also present to manage the event. That detail matters because the trees were in a private area, but the road was closed on a public safety indication, a reminder that ownership of the land does not decide who carries the risk when branches hang over traffic.
Reopening is not automatic. Before the road can be restored to normal traffic, preventive verification of the slope is required, along with any intervention on the trees by third parties. In practice, that means the closure will stay in place until the condition of the hillside and the overhanging vegetation are checked and any needed work is carried out. For drivers using this corridor through Sorrento, the question now is not why the road was shut, but how quickly the safety checks can be completed so the route can reopen.
