Samsung has not officially named the Galaxy Watch 9, but the clues around it are starting to line up. A Samsung Health update began rolling out on June 8, Qualcomm has already said the next Galaxy Watch will use the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, and fresh certification filings surfaced for watch models that fit the new generation.
That is why the Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 rumors are drawing attention now. On June 4, Samsung announced a major Samsung Health update built around Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness and Vitals, and the company said the changes are meant to showcase the key health features of its upcoming Galaxy Watch. Hon Pak said the update connects health data to AI-driven insights, while Samsung’s footnote said the new features will first be available on the upcoming Galaxy Watch.
The timing matters because the software rollout is not arriving in isolation. Samsung has also published studies that tie its watches to health monitoring, including a Korea study that said the Galaxy Watch 6 could predict a fainting episode up to 5 minutes before it happened with 84.6 percent accuracy, and another with Massachusetts General Hospital that used the Galaxy Watch 8 to track muscle loss in patients on GLP-1 medication. Together, those updates make Samsung Health look less like a routine app refresh and more like a preview of the next watch generation.
The hardware trail is just as pointed. Qualcomm confirmed at MWC 2026 in March that the next Galaxy Watch will use the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, and InKang Song said the new chip will help the watch become an even better wellness companion. Samsung and Qualcomm did not name a model, though some reports say both the Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 get the new chip while Notebookcheck says only the Watch Ultra 2 does and the standard Watch 9 keeps the older Exynos W1000.
That uncertainty is where the story gets interesting. The Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 cleared FCC and CMIIT certification in the middle of June, with filings listing SM-L340 and SM-L345 for the 40mm Watch 9, SM-L350 and SM-L355 for the 44mm version, and SM-L715 for the Watch Ultra 2. No Classic model number appeared in either filing, which is why the Galaxy Watch 9 Classic looks less likely than it once did.
Samsung has left the market to connect the dots on its own. As of June 19, the company had not sent out an Unpacked invite or used the Galaxy Watch 9 name in any official statement, even as Korean media reports point to July 22, 2026, in London, for the next event. If that date holds, the watch itself is already far enough along that the remaining question is no longer whether Samsung is preparing a new model, but which version of it will carry the Snapdragon chip when it finally appears.
