is sending Kpop Demon Hunters back to cinemas for its first anniversary, with global screenings set to begin in the lead-up to June 20. The rollout gives fans a chance to see the animated hit on the big screen again, after a year that turned it into one of the streamer’s biggest movies.

The anniversary plan reaches far beyond one market. Theatrical releases are scheduled in the U.S., the U.K. and Ireland, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Israel, while free outdoor screenings are planned in New York, San Francisco, Atlanta and other locations listed on Netflix’s site. Netflix also said the run-up to June 20 will include events, activations and merch drops, turning the anniversary into a broader fan campaign rather than a single weekend of screenings.

That push fits a movie that kept growing long after its release. By the end of 2025, Kpop Demon Hunters had become Netflix’s most-watched movie and had crossed over 500 million views, a scale that helped make it a worldwide phenomenon. The film also won Oscars for Best Original Song for “Golden” and Best Animated Feature, cementing its place well beyond the streaming column.

The return to theaters comes with one obvious complication: a sequel has already been announced, but is not expected until 2029. For now, Netflix is leaning on the first film’s momentum and its anniversary to keep the audience engaged, using screenings and live activations to stretch the title’s life while the next chapter remains years away.
