Emily Blunt arrived at the UK premiere of Disclosure Day in London on Thursday evening, stepping onto the Cineworld IMAX carpet in a head-to-toe lilac gown as the film’s cast gathered ahead of its June 12 release. Felicity Blunt and Stanley Tucci were among the relatives and co-stars in attendance, while John Krasinski was not there.
The appearance put Blunt back in the spotlight for Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film, in which she plays Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City journalist turned meteorologist caught in a massive government conspiracy. Colin Firth, Josh O’Conner and Eve Hewson also star in the project, which has been presented as a major vehicle for Blunt’s performance and one of the more closely watched studio releases of the month.
For Blunt and Krasinski, the public outing stood out because they usually keep Hazel, 12, and Violet, 10, away from that kind of attention. He has said the family tries to make sure one parent is always home with the children, and she has said kindness has been central to their upbringing. That made the absence all the more noticeable on a night when Blunt was otherwise surrounded by family and colleagues.
The evening was not entirely polished, either. David Koepp slipped on the rainy Leicester Square carpet and was helped up by Eve, a brief, unscripted moment that matched the weather and reminded everyone that the premiere was happening in London, not on a soundstage. With Disclosure Day now set for June 12, the question is less who showed up on Thursday than how much of a push the film can get from a premiere that pulled Blunt, Firth, Tucci and Hewson into the same frame without Krasinski beside her.
