Liverpool have made contact with RB Leipzig as they step up their pursuit of Yan Diomande, moving the 19-year-old attacker closer to the centre of the summer market. Leipzig are holding firm for now, saying he is not for sale and that only a bid above €130million would even start to change their position.
That is why Diomande is being searched now: Liverpool are the club most advanced in the chase, and their interest has become active rather than speculative. The forward joined Leipzig from Leganes in the summer of 2025 and is tied to the German club until 2030 without a release clause, which leaves Leipzig in control of the pace and price of any deal.
His numbers explain the push. Diomande delivered 13 goals and 10 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions last season, form that helped Leipzig qualify for the Champions League and put him on the radar of several elite clubs. Paris Saint-Germain remain strongly interested, while Manchester City are among the admirers who have yet to make the same headway as Liverpool.
Leipzig’s stance also explains the friction in the talks. They have been clear that Diomande is not for sale, and the reported demand of more than €130million would place him among the most expensive young forwards in Europe. For Liverpool, the question is not whether he fits the profile, but whether they are prepared to go to that level after making the first real move.
Diomande has already played down the noise around him, saying last month that big-club talk can be motivating but that his focus stays on the pitch. That will only add to the feeling that the next step belongs to Liverpool: either they test Leipzig’s valuation with an offer, or the asking price ends the chase before it properly begins.
