Heaton knows this club from every angle. He came through United’s youth ranks, made his senior debut in 2005 on loan at Swindon and left in 2010 after five temporary moves. Between those spells and his return in 2021, he built a long career at Burnley and Aston Villa, making 200 appearances for Burnley and helping them win promotion to the Premier League twice. His time at Villa was then interrupted by a season-ending injury in January 2020, with the problem carrying into the next campaign before Emi Martinez established himself as first choice.
