América has opened talks with Guillermo Almada to make him its next coach, but the negotiations are stalled over the size of the offer. The move is still alive, but the club and the Uruguayan coach have not found the number that would close it.
That is why Almada’s name is drawing attention today: the conversation is active, the vacancy at América remains open and the deal appears close enough to track in real time. People close to the coach say he is waiting for a higher proposal, and one of them put the position bluntly: “O suben la oferta o no se hace.”
The gap in the talks could be about 500 thousand dollars a year. Almada is said to earn around three million dollars, a figure that helps explain why the next step matters so much. América, for its part, would not have an economic problem with the operation, which leaves the dispute focused less on budget than on how far the club is willing to move for him.
Almada’s availability comes after a short and difficult spell at Real Oviedo. He took charge of the Spanish club on December 16, 2025, and the team later announced his departure on May 24, 2026, after a five-month run that produced 19 of 66 possible points and ended with relegation to the Segunda División. Reports close to the team also said his relationship with the players had deteriorated in recent weeks.
The talks have not been cut off, only paused, and they could be revived if América improves its offer. That leaves the search for a coach tied to a single question now: whether the club is ready to add enough to finish the deal, or whether Almada will stay out of reach while América keeps looking.
