Death Valley has no verdict yet on whether it will return for season 3 or be cancelled, with the expected to make a decision in the coming months. That leaves the six-part comedy-drama in limbo while season 2 is still midway through its run on linear television, even though all six episodes are already on iPlayer.
The question is cropping up now because viewers are watching the latest chapter while also wondering whether it is the end of the road for John and Janie. In the season, the pair are at loggerheads, and John is horrified to learn that Janie is dating his mother, Yvonne. Janie’s estranged father also reappears, pushing the story toward a finale where the two work through their issues and Janie cancels her travel plans to settle down in her hometown.
That uncertainty matters because Death Valley arrived with real momentum. Its first season became Comedy’s biggest overnight launch in five years, but a quieter return in May drew a colder response, with Broadcast reporting 500,000 fewer viewers than the previous instalment. The contrast does not amount to a final verdict, but it does explain why the show’s future is being watched so closely.
If the does order another run, Gwyneth Keyworth would be expected to return as detective Janie Mallowan, with Steffan Rhodri, Alexandria Riley, Rithvik Andugula and Melanie Walters also likely to be back in some capacity. For now, though, the key point is simpler: the show is not finished, but no one outside the knows yet whether the next chapter will be season 3 or the last stop in Death Valley.
