Jermaine Mcewen has been referred to the NRL Integrity Unit after he was reportedly charged by police, with the Knights now waiting on the outcome of a process that could shape his immediate future at the club.
The 21-year-old was reported by the SMH to have been charged with driving with a suspended licence and low-range drink-driving. The Knights said on Wednesday afternoon that the club was aware of an incident involving McEwen and that the matter had been sent to the NRL Integrity Unit.
The club said McEwen reported the incident to it at the time it occurred, then added that a thorough process continues to be undertaken by all parties required. It also said it would make no further comment until due process is completed.
That leaves a clear gap around his availability for this weekend's clash against the Storm. McEwen is listed to face court on June 25, and the Knights have not said whether he will be withdrawn before then.
The timing matters because McEwen recently signed an extension that keeps him at the club until at least the end of 2028. For a player tied long-term to the Knights, the next few days now carry more weight than a routine club update.
What happens next is simple enough to track. The club will hold its line until the process is done, McEwen is due in court on June 25, and the question of whether he lines up against the Storm remains unanswered.
