Love Island wasted no time turning the opening episode into a test of nerve. On June 1, Maya Jama introduced Yasmin Hadlow as one of two new bombshells and told her she had just 24 hours to help choose two Islanders for elimination.
The twist landed in a villa already crowded with 12 fresh Islanders, and it instantly gave Yasmin’s arrival real consequences. By the time the clock runs out, she and George Knight will have helped decide which two contestants go home, with the result set to be revealed tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
Yasmin, 23, is a recruitment consultant from Kent, and she arrived with a clear idea of the man she usually falls for. She said she tends to go for someone funny with an accent, whether Irish or Mancunian, and wants a partner who is really tall next to her and can look after her. She also said she cannot stand someone who takes ages getting ready, a complaint she backed up with a story about waiting for an ex to finish his routine and spray what she described as his fifth load of hairspray.
She is also looking for something more serious after a string of relationships, which makes the elimination task feel even sharper. Yasmin called herself a girl's girl and said she was worried about clashing with friends over the same boy, but she was just as direct about where she draws the line: if she wants the same man as a friend, she said, she would have to go for what she wants. That kind of split loyalty is exactly the sort of thing Love Island thrives on.
Her own way into a connection sounds no less revealing. Yasmin described herself as a giggler and said eye contact is what starts it for her when she spots someone on a night out. She also said she keeps two Instagram accounts, one personal account at @yasminhadloww and a business profile at @itsyasminhadlow, a small sign of how carefully she is managing both sides of her life while stepping into the villa spotlight.
For now, though, the real test is not who Yasmin likes. It is who she and George Knight decide does not stay. The pair were sent in to completely rock the villa, and by Tuesday night the first major casualty of that plan will be clear.
