Real Madrid have moved into the right-back market for this summer and Pedro Porro is one of the names on their list. Tottenham, though, are not encouraging the chase and have made clear they want the Spaniard to stay.
The interest matters because Madrid are not browsing casually. They plan to sign one right-back this summer, and Porro has emerged as a player they appreciate, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. His update also pointed to Ivan Fresneda and Denzel Dumfries as other options if the Porro route shuts down.
Porro's stock has risen quickly since Tottenham spent last season fighting a far different battle, a nightmare campaign that left them close to relegation before Roberto De Zerbi's mid-season appointment helped steady the club. Madrid, meanwhile, came through a rare trophyless season and are already shaping their rebuild with another defender in mind.
The friction is obvious. Madrid want a right-back and Porro is on the board, but Tottenham are closing doors for him and do not want to sell. Romano said Spurs see him as one of the crucial pieces of the project they are trying to restart, which is why they have resisted the noise around a move.
That leaves Madrid with a choice that could define the rest of their summer search: push again for Porro and test Tottenham's resolve, or turn to other targets such as Fresneda or Dumfries. For Porro, the next step is less about speculation than leverage, because the club that wants him most is the one that has already said no.
