London City Airport has launched a new British Airways service to Toulon, with the first passengers travelling on May 26. Operated by BA Cityflyer, the route gives London travellers another way into the French Riviera and another gateway to Toulon–Hyères Airport.
The launch was marked at the departure gate with a French Riviera-themed send-off that felt more holiday than business trip. Passengers were greeted with deckchairs, parasols, a live saxophonist and refreshments from staff at London City Airport and BA Cityflyer, while a rose wine-tasting bar inspired by Provence added to the scene.
Anne Doyere said the launch was close to her heart because she is a proud Frenchwoman, and called it the only London route to Toulon. She said the service strengthens London’s connection to the south of France and reflects the airport’s push to grow its leisure offering. The route sits alongside London City Airport’s existing connection to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, giving British Airways two options in the same part of the coast rather than one.
Toulon is being sold as a leisure win, and it is one for travellers heading to the south of France, especially those bound for Saint-Tropez. But it also sharpens competition inside London City Airport’s own network, where the new service now runs in parallel with the Nice link in a region that already draws steady demand. Ian Romanis said the addition gives customers greater choice and a convenient connection from the heart of London to the shores of the French Riviera.
What remains unclear is how often the Toulon service will operate and what it will cost. For now, the launch itself is the news: British Airways has added one more south of France route from London City Airport, and it is aiming squarely at summer travellers looking for a faster, neater way to reach the coast.
