Kai Huckenbeck won the Glasgow FIM SGP Challenge qualifier on Saturday with a 15-point maximum, booking his place in the 2026 FIM SGP Challenge and leaving the field to chase the next step toward the 2027 FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship. He took five straight heats in Scotland, a clean sweep that put him on top of the night and made him the clear winner of the fim sgp challenge qualifiers in Glasgow.
The result mattered because the Glasgow round was one of the gateways to Terenzano on July 25, where only the top four riders will secure places in the 2027 world championship. Jack Holder advanced on 12 points after winning a run-off with Anders Rowe, who also moved through, while Frederik Jakobsen and Chris Harris qualified on 11 points after beating Maciej Janowski in a run-off for the last places. Victor Palovaara fell short on nine points and Adam Ellis exited on seven.
For Harris, the night carried a familiar edge. He last reached the Speedway GP elite through an FIM SGP Challenge in Italy at Lonigo in 2014, the same night Janowski qualified as well. This time Janowski again went deep enough to stay in contention, but he missed out on a final qualification place in Glasgow and may still be called up as a replacement ahead of the event.
That is what gives Saturday's qualifying round its weight. Huckenbeck has a direct route into the 2026 Challenge, Holder, Rowe, Jakobsen and Harris are now in the mix for Terenzano, and the race for the four places on offer in Italy is the one that will shape the field for Speedway GP in 2027.
