Meta on Wednesday officially launched paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, rolling out a new set of Plus plans globally as it looks to deepen its consumer business beyond advertising. The company announced the plans in an Instagram post from head of product Naomi Gleit.
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus cost $3.99 a month, while WhatsApp Plus costs $2.99 a month. For Instagram, the paid tier gives subscribers more control over Stories and profile features, including the ability to see how many people rewatched a Story in aggregate, build unlimited audience lists, extend Stories beyond the usual 24-hour window and preview a Story without registering as a viewer.
The Instagram package also includes a weekly spotlight option, animated Super Heart reactions, custom app icons, customizable bio fonts and extra profile pins. Facebook Plus mirrors much of that approach and leans on social expression and profile customization, while WhatsApp Plus adds app themes, custom ringtones, premium stickers and extra pinned chats.
The launch does not replace Meta Verified, which remains a separate product focused on account verification and protection against impersonation. That split matters because Meta is also testing a broader subscription umbrella called Meta One, an early-stage effort in select markets that could eventually house AI-focused tiers and professional plans for creators and businesses.
Meta has given no sign that the new Plus plans are meant to be a short-lived experiment. By putting paid features directly into its biggest apps while keeping verification separate, the company is building a layered subscription model that could become a more important part of its business if users decide the extras are worth the monthly charge.
