Tottenham secured Premier League football for next season with a 1-0 win over Everton on the final day, a result that opened the door for the club to push ahead with moves for Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi. Joao Palhinha scored the first-half winner as Spurs finished 17th with 41 points from 38 matches.
Paul Joyce reported that a verbal agreement had been in place for Robertson to join Tottenham if the club avoided relegation, with the 32-year-old now expected to leave Liverpool this summer. The Scotland defender spent the last nine years at Anfield, made more than 350 appearances and won two Premier League titles and one Champions League before saying farewell after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford.
Robertson is set to become a free agent at the end of his contract in June, and Tottenham’s survival has changed the timing of their summer plans. The club had also held advanced talks for Senesi, the 29-year-old Bournemouth centre-back, subject to Premier League safety being secured.
Senesi has been at Bournemouth since 2022 and has made more than 100 appearances for the club, which finished sixth and sealed Europa League football this season. Like Robertson, he is also out of contract at the end of the summer, making him available as Tottenham look to rebuild after finishing just two places above the bottom of the table.
The pattern is clear. Tottenham’s transfer work was tied directly to what happened on the pitch, and survival has now turned two names that had been conditional into immediate targets. What they do next will show whether the club treats this escape as a reset or simply a reprieve.
