A man in his 70s has died after a collision with a heavy goods vehicle on Clapham High Street in south-west London on Friday morning, closing the road and forcing bus diversions across the area. Emergency services were called to the busy SW4 street just after 11am and the man was pronounced dead at 11:36hrs.

A police spokesperson said the man was assessed and treated at the roadside before being pronounced dead despite the efforts of emergency teams. The ambulance service said a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clapham High Street remained closed after the collision, and at least five bus routes were diverted as the disruption spread beyond the crash site. The road is a main stretch through Clapham, and the closure is likely to affect journeys through the area for some time.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and appealed for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward. They asked anyone with information to contact police on 101, quoting CAD2859/22MAY26.
