The Indiana Fever waived Shatori Walker-Kimbrough on Thursday afternoon, ending a short stay that began when she signed a training camp contract on April 16. The move leaves Indiana with one open roster spot as it moves closer to the finish line on its roster decisions.
Walker-Kimbrough, who turned 31 on Monday, was on a one-year, non-guaranteed deal and appeared in two games for the Fever this season. She logged 3 minutes, 18 seconds in Wednesday’s 17-point win over the Portland Fire, her final game with the club.
The guard was entering her 10th WNBA season after coming into the league in 2017 and spent last season with Atlanta. Before the season-opener, she said she knew the camp gave her a real chance and wanted to make the most of it by joining a strong organization, working under coach Steph White and sharing the floor with accomplished players.
Walker-Kimbrough also said she was struck by the professionalism around the team, the energy in the building and the expectations that came with it. She called it a good time to be part of the WNBA and women’s sports, saying the talent keeps improving and the recognition around the game has become a blessing for everyone involved.
The Fever’s roster move comes with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement requiring teams to carry 12 players, a standard that tightens the margin for anyone on an unguaranteed contract. Indiana returns to the court Friday to host the Golden State Valkyries at 7:30 p.m. ET, and will then have five days between games after that home date.
