The Marlins and Reds completed a trade on May 21, 2026, sending outfielder Rece Hinds to Miami and minor league right-hander Zach McCambley to Cincinnati. Miami immediately optioned Hinds to Triple-A Jacksonville, while McCambley was obtained as extra pitching depth for the Reds.
To make room, the Marlins transferred left-hander Robby Snelling to the 60-day injured list and recalled infielder Graham Pauley. They also placed infielder Leo Jiménez on the seven-day injured list with concussion symptoms. The roster shuffle gave Miami a fresh arm to send out and a power bat to stash, while Cincinnati took a reliever it could use later if needed.
McCambley is 27 and has spent the last year-plus in Triple-A, where he has logged 67 1/3 innings with a 2.94 ERA, an 11.6% walk rate and a 30.3% strikeout rate. He works with a mid-90s four-seamer, a high-80s cutter and a mid-80s slider. The Phillies selected him in the Rule 5 draft in November, then returned him to Miami at the end of spring training, leaving him off the 40-man roster when the Reds picked him up.
The move gives Cincinnati a pitcher who can be carried in the system and called up later if the club wants a fresh arm or a different look in the bullpen. Hinds, 25, had been designated for assignment a few days earlier after producing 131 big league plate appearances with a.172/.221/.426 line, five home runs and a swing that can still flash loud upside, including a.410/.465/.949 stretch in one run of 540 plate appearances in the minors. The Reds are betting they can wait on that kind of volatility; Miami is choosing immediate roster flexibility.
Snelling’s move adds a separate layer to the Marlins’ day. He was diagnosed with a sprain of his ulnar collateral ligament last week and is technically eligible for reinstatement in July, but his transfer to the 60-day injured list shows the club does not need his spot right now. For Miami, the trade was not just about swapping one player for another. It was about clearing space, managing injuries and deciding which part of the roster it can afford to park for later.
