Trent Grisham left Wednesday night’s game at Yankee Stadium with a possible left leg injury, exiting a scoreless matchup with the Blue Jays in the top of the fifth inning. Rookie Spencer Jones replaced him defensively after Grisham had already made his mark in the second.
Grisham reached second on a gift double off Trey Yesavage in the second inning after a catchable fly ball dropped between two Blue Jays defenders in shallow left field. He stayed in the game through the top of the fifth before the Yankees turned to Jones in the field.
The Yankees did not immediately provide a diagnosis for Grisham or a timetable for his return. That leaves manager Aaron Boone with another moving part in an outfield already missing Jasson Dominguez, who is on the injured list with a strained left shoulder, and Giancarlo Stanton, who is out with a strained right calf.
The injury matters because Grisham has been part of a lineup and outfield group already stretched thin by absences, and the Yankees are now waiting to see whether Wednesday night was a short interruption or the start of another longer problem. For now, the only certainty is that they finished the night without him and with more uncertainty than they had when the game began.
