Tom Selleck is heading back to the world of law and investigation with a new History Channel series built around some of the most notable crimes in American history. The 81-year-old actor will narrate, host and executive produce Crime and Justice with Tom Selleck, a project announced earlier in 2024 that has not yet received a release date.
The series will dig into major cases and the lawmen and women who risked their lives to solve them. Selleck said he has long been drawn to stories about consequences and the pursuit of justice, and described the show as one that looks at real cases across American history, with pressure intense, outcomes uncertain and decisions carrying lasting consequences.
That subject matter fits the screen persona Selleck built over years as Frank Reagan, the New York police commissioner he played on Blue Bloods, which ended in 2024. The franchise has continued on CBS through Boston Blue, starring Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan, while Selleck himself has kept a relatively low profile since the parent series signed off. He had not taken on any roles after Blue Bloods ended, making the new project his clearest move back into the public eye.
History Channel executive Eli Lehrer said Selleck has long brought credibility and insight to stories about law and justice, adding that the actor is a natural fit for the project. He said the network is pleased to work with Selleck on a series about real crimes, real investigations and the people responsible for upholding the law when the stakes were highest.
The timing matters because Selleck’s return comes after a year in which his most familiar role went away and his next chapter had remained unclear. In 2025, he also signed with UTA, and he appeared at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books to discuss his memoir and his long career, signaling that he is still shaping the public version of his legacy even as he steps into a new television role. What remains unresolved is when viewers will actually get to see Crime and Justice with Tom Selleck, since no release date has been announced.
