Fayette County Public Schools has released the list of 120 district positions set to be eliminated ahead of the 2026-27 academic year, including 49 hourly roles and 71 salaried jobs.
The district said 17 of the salaried positions are administrators. It also said all of the people affected have already been notified.
FCPS said the reductions are part of larger district-wide cuts tied to the 2026-27 academic year. In a statement, the district emphasized that the move should not be read as a judgment on the people in those roles or the work they have done. It asked the community to show empathy as affected staff members deal with the news.
The district said the employees losing their jobs have given their time, energy and talents to support students, and it described them as neighbors, friends and valued members of the community. That message comes as human resources works with employees who have job rights or tenure to identify possible placements inside the district.
FCPS is also encouraging impacted workers to apply for open positions they are qualified for within the district. That gives some staff members a possible path to stay in the school system, even as the list of eliminated positions moves forward ahead of next school year. The remaining question is how many of those workers will ultimately land in other roles before the cuts take effect.
