A new wave of God of War rumors is putting at the center of the franchise’s next possible mainline game, even as has made no official announcement. The chatter has also revived speculation that the project could surface as a “one more thing” reveal at a rumored State of Play before Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026.

The speculation matters because the series has spent years redefining itself, moving from Greek mythology into the Norse God of War era and the nine realms while keeping at the core. is attached to the adaptation of the Norse games, and , also known as Loki, has already been framed as a character who may one day journey into new places, leaving room for the story to branch again.

The latest rumor says the next game could feature one character in particular: Faye, the mother of Atreus and Kratos’ partner in the Norse storyline, with floated by fans as the likely face for the role. That has been enough to set off a lively debate online, where some players say they would welcome a side story that fills in a major gap in the timeline and others are far less interested in moving away from Kratos.

One commenter, Marathoniano, said, “If this really is the ‘one more thing’ at the next State of Play, that would be a big surprise.” In the same discussion, the user added, “Faye spin-off would actually be fire. We barely know anything about her story, so this has a lot of potential.”

Not everyone is sold. Lewis Barrett said they are more interested in an Atreus spin-off or seeing Kratos’ story continue, while warrior lady was blunt: “Nobody asked for a game with her, what is Sony smoking.” Another user, dontcallmewave, offered a more mixed view: “On one hand, no one asked for a game centered around Faye. But on the other hand, no one asked for a game about Kratos as a struggling single dad, and that turned out to be awesome.”

There is at least some precedent for taking the series into unexpected territory. Its Metroidvania God of War Sons of Sparta was described as a commendable foray into an unprecedented genre for the series, and the franchise itself has long been recognized for its intense combat, mythological storytelling, technical innovation, critical acclaim and numerous awards. A Faye game would also help bridge the gulf between God of War 3 and the Norse revival, giving the studio a way to connect the older era to the modern one without simply retelling Kratos’ path.

For now, that is still all it is: rumor layered on rumor, with no official reveal and no confirmed game to speak of. But the debate around Faye suggests the next chapter in God of War may be judged not by whether it can replace Kratos, but by whether it can make room for the people whose stories have been left in the margins so far.
