Wizards of the Coast will cap purchases of the Goblin Storm Commander Deck at one per customer when it goes on sale through the company’s Secret Lair storefront on May 18 at 9:00 a.m. PT.
The move is meant to make sure as many fans as possible can buy the deck through Wizards’ official shop, rather than watch stock disappear into resale channels within minutes. Secret Lair sales are usually unlimited, but many of these releases sell out extremely quickly anyway, and similar drops have often been swept up by scalpers who buy in bulk and flip them for a profit.
That matters here because Secret Lair Commander Decks already tend to open with high price tags, which makes them especially vulnerable to resale markups once availability tightens. Goblin Storm is centered on one of Magic: The Gathering’s most popular creature types and includes several new artworks for classic cards, giving it the kind of built-in demand that has made past Secret Lairs hard to get at launch.
For customers, the one-deck limit is Wizards’ clearest attempt to keep this release in the hands of players rather than resellers. The question on May 18 is not whether interest will be strong; it is how long the storefront will stay open before the deck is gone.
