About 18,500 Agio-Menlo swings sold through Costco have been recalled after the seat was found to detach from the frame while in use, creating a fall hazard that can lead to serious injury or death. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said it had received eight injury reports tied to the swing recall, including head and arm impact injuries.
The swing recall is part of a broader run of recent safety actions involving products sold by major retailers, including Costco, Amazon and Target. In the same batch, the CPSC also said about 200 pool drain covers were recalled for failing entrapment protection standards, a violation that creates entrapment and drowning hazards, while some 16,260 Generac and DR electric-start pressure washers were pulled back after a start/stop button problem raised the risk of self-starting and carbon monoxide poisoning if the machine is left running in a confined space.
The pressure washer recall follows a prior action in 2022 that affected 53,000 units, but the agency said six incidents of self-starting have been reported in the latest case and no injuries or property damage have been reported so far. That stands in contrast to the swing case, where the reports already include injuries and the hazard is immediate if the seat lets go during use.
The roundup also includes about 102,430 pull-string teething toys, which were recalled because the silicone strings are longer and smaller than allowed under mandatory toy standards and can reach the back of a child's throat. The CPSC said it is aware of 11 choking incidents. About 125,200 Cosyland-branded children's tower stools were also recalled after 25 incident reports and eight injuries, including scrapes, cuts and a fractured arm, because a child's body could fit through openings on the front and back sides of the stools.
Another 25,235 Guidecraft kitchen helper towers were recalled after the platform was found to loosen over time, making the units unstable or able to detach. The agency said it had received 11 reports of children falling from the towers and three injuries, including a bloody nose and bruises. Around 2,900 Amazon adjustable dumbbells were also recalled because the weight plates may not engage fully and can dislodge during use, creating an impact hazard; eight reports of plates dislodging have been received, though no injuries have been reported.
For families, the message today is blunt: these are not abstract defects. They are hazards that can turn up during ordinary use, from a child climbing a kitchen helper tower to an adult lifting weights or a parent letting a swing arc back and forth in the yard. The common thread in the costco agio-menlo swing recall and the other notices is that each item failed in a way that could quickly turn a routine moment into an emergency.
