Sheffield United have released Jairo Riedewald after the 29-year-old midfielder spent the season at Bramall Lane under Chris Wilder. The club also confirmed the departure of former England striker Danny Ings as it moved to reshape the squad after finishing 13th in the Championship in 2025-26.
Riedewald joined Sheffield United on a short-term deal in October and extended it through to the end of the season in December. He went on to make 26 appearances and scored two goals, offering steady cover through a campaign that never quite built enough momentum to push the side higher up the table. Ings, 33, arrived on a season-long deal in August and scored twice in 24 appearances before his release was confirmed.
The latest retained list follows earlier departures that had already been set out. Former Everton midfielder Tom Davies was previously announced as leaving at the end of the campaign, while defender Ben Mee had already confirmed his retirement. Sheffield United also triggered the one-year option on goalkeeper Adam Davies' contract, keeping him in place for the next campaign.
For Riedewald, the exit closes a brief but notable spell in South Yorkshire. He arrived with no long-term guarantee in October, earned an extension in December and still finished the campaign among the group shown the door as Wilder’s side began planning for the next season.
