Courtney Kemp's highly anticipated Netflix debut has arrived — and it is already one of the most talked-about crime dramas of 2026. Nemesis Netflix dropped all eight episodes on May 14, earning critical praise, a top-10 global ranking, and fans already demanding more. Here is the complete breakdown of everything you need to know.

What Is Nemesis on Netflix?

Nemesis is the story of two men on different sides of the law — the tale of what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. What starts as a subversion of the heist genre, amped by thrilling life-or-death stakes, family dynamics, and explosive action, becomes an exploration of what drives us, sustains us, and ultimately destroys us.

Nemesis is an American crime drama television series released on Netflix, co-created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole. It premiered on May 14, 2026. A police detective and a criminal mastermind play cat-and-mouse in Los Angeles. The show is Kemp's first project under her major creative partnership with Netflix, following years of dominance at Starz with the Power Universe.

Courtney Kemp's New Netflix Series: The Creative Vision

"Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix, specific in location but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty vs. self-preservation," Kemp said.

The series serves as the debut collaboration between Kemp and Netflix, born out of the massive, highly publicized overall deal she signed with the streamer back in 2021 following the monumental success of Power. The show reunites Kemp with Power collaborator Mario Van Peebles, who serves as an executive producer and director for the opening two episodes.

In Netflix's latest crime series Nemesis, Courtney A. Kemp and co-creator Tani Marole explore the different prisms of morality through the eyes of two vastly different men trying to carve out a legacy for themselves. One man works within a system that was never supposed to embrace him, and another in an environment that threatens to consume what is left of his brilliance and humanity.

Coleman has previously impressed in Cobweb, Infinity Pool, Black Rabbit, and The Last Man on Earth. Gabrielle Dennis plays Candace Stiles, Isaiah's wife and a therapist, who suffers as her husband nearly abandons the family in his obsession with Coltrane's case.

Nemesis Episode Guide: How the Story Unfolds

The eight-episode first season opens at a lavish Beverly Hills estate on Halloween, when a costumed crew pulls off a brazen Halloween heist. LAPD detective Isaiah Stiles begins to suspect it is anything but a one-off crime.

The eight-episode first season opens with Coltrane Wilder and his wife Ebony dressed for Halloween as iconic New Jack City characters. After learning about the Halloween robbery, Isaiah becomes obsessed with bringing Coltrane down, even if it means incinerating everything and everyone he loves. For his part, Coltrane is resolute about keeping the felonious parts of his business far away from the life he and Ebony have worked so meticulously to build. What ensues is a bloody, tantalizing battle of wits and nerve as the two men embark on a collision course to destroy each other.

Isaiah and Coltrane are intoxicating foes because they do what is least expected. The series opens up both characters' worlds brilliantly, showcasing memorable side characters including the stoic Stro and his impulsive associate Deon, as well as Ebony's depraved and impeccably dressed older sister Charlie.

Nemesis Season 1 Finale: What Happened and What It Means for Season 2

The finale ends with Coltrane cornered by the Alvarez gang, Noah and Stiles, leading to a chaotic shootout that forces him to flee barefoot. Stiles eventually catches up with him, but things take a sharp turn when Noah is shot in the crossfire. Coltrane uses that moment to bargain for his freedom, convincing Stiles to let him go so he can help save Noah's life. It is a messy, morally loaded ending leaving Season 2 with plenty to unpack. Does Noah survive? Does Coltrane make it back to his wife and Charlie? What really happened between Malik and Candace? Are Darren, Chris, and Brinkley still alive?

The finale does not wrap anything up neatly, instead leaving the entire world of the show wide open and dangling threads across every major character arc.

Nemesis Season 2: Will Netflix Renew the Show?

As of right now, Netflix has not officially greenlit Nemesis for a second season, but all signs are pointing in a highly positive direction. As of the time of publishing, the series is the number 2 series on Netflix globally after the second season of Berlin. The show is currently ranking in the top 10s in 83 countries.

Co-creator Courtney A. Kemp confirmed in a live Instagram broadcast that there was already a season 2 blueprint in response to a fan inquiry. While there has been no official renewal order from Netflix for Season 2, the statements from the co-creator suggest it is extremely promising.

Beyond the ongoing narrative, the creators have real-world motivations for pushing for renewal. "It was just after the fires that we started to shoot too. Los Angeles was really at a low, so it was important," Kemp told What's on Netflix. "We really hope we have more seasons of this show so we can bring our amazing crew back."

Nemesis Netflix Reviews and Critical Reception

The series holds a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 10 reviews. The top Metacritic review called it a "layered, propulsive series exemplifying the energy and dynamism that keeps the cops-and-robbers genre so appealing." Variety deemed the ride an exciting roller coaster, and Collider stated the show is an action-packed thriller with plot twists that keep it interesting.

One top critic described Nemesis as "a shot of pure adrenaline and hell-yeah vigor followed up with a chaser of pathos and longing, and one of the best new series Netflix has released this year."

Like Power and all of its spinoffs, Nemesis is full of stunning turns, shocking even the most observant audiences. All of the women in the series are empowered. Seeing their husbands on the verge of self-destruction, Ebony and Candace make difficult, unexpected choices to redirect their lives. When the plot gets a bit too convoluted and the action begins to feel overdone, the women in this world give Nemesis the grounding it needs.

All eight episodes of Nemesis Season 1 are streaming now exclusively on Netflix.
