The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is putting a special traffic and safety deployment in place on Friday, May 15, as the Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalunya MotoGP begins and draws thousands of fans to the area.
More than 500 personnel will be involved in the weekend operation, with officers from traffic, public safety and emergency coordination units working together to keep vehicles moving and prevent dangerous overcrowding around the circuit. Authorities said the deployment will last throughout the weekend, and they expect delays and occasional detours as they manage public entry and exit.
For the Mossos d'Esquadra, the goal is total control of the area during one of the busiest sporting weekends on the calendar. The CatalanGP generates intense activity in the province of Tarragona and surrounding areas, and the reinforced presence is meant to keep the event safe for attendees while limiting disruption outside the circuit.
That is the trade-off for a race weekend of this size: the roads will not move normally, but the added police presence is there to make sure the crowd can come and go without the situation turning chaotic. The key question for anyone heading to the circuit is not whether delays will happen, but how much extra time they should plan for before they set out.
