Venezuela Fury is set to marry Noah Price this weekend, with the wedding expected on Saturday after the couple got engaged at her 16th birthday party last year.
The bride-to-be, 16, shared her final wedding preparations earlier this week, making the ceremony the latest step in a relationship that has drawn public attention because Price is 19 and the pair became engaged while she was still a teenager. The family has already defended the decision to let the marriage go ahead, even as critics have questioned whether someone her age is ready for married life.
John Fury said he was shocked when he heard of the engagement and made clear he opposed it. “They're children!” he said. “I don't think she's mature enough for anything like - she's still a baby.” He also said, “On my watch a 15-year-old should never have a boyfriend, never.”
Paris Fury has taken the opposite view. She described Venezuela as “so mature for her years” and said, “She's done so much in such a short time just because of who she is and the fact that she's got six younger brothers and sisters that she's helped bring up, I can't deny it.” She added that she could not object because “I was 17 when I got engaged,” and said, “She's obviously following in my footsteps, so how can I judge her in any way.” Paris Fury said she would support the marriage if her daughter was happy, saying, “I know she's young. But I think she's found the person she loves and if she's happy, I will completely support her.”
The wedding comes at a delicate moment for the family. John Fury refused to attend Tyson Fury's comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov last month, after saying earlier this year that his relationship with Tyson had been “completely destroyed” by boxing. Tyson Fury said on Good Morning Britain that his father had wanted him to retire six years ago after his first victory over Deontay Wilder, adding, “He's got his opinions and he doesn't want me to do it – he never has wanted me to do it for the past six years.”
Tyson Fury also signaled that he was not expecting a reunion any time soon. “He might do. But he didn't come to the Usyk II fight so I'm not holding my breath,” he said, before adding of his father, “My dad will do what my dad will do, he's his own man and there's nothing I can do about it. If he turns up, great and if he doesn't, also great.”
For Venezuela, this weekend's ceremony marks a public step into adulthood under scrutiny. For the family around her, it is another reminder that the Furys' private choices rarely stay private for long.
