No. 24 Nebraska turned a tight opener into a rout Thursday, scoring seven runs in the sixth inning to beat Minnesota 12-7 at Siebert Field in Minneapolis. The Huskers sent 12 batters to the plate in that inning, then added three more in the seventh to pull away after trailing 4-1 heading into the sixth.
Dylan Carey sparked the surge with a two-run double in the sixth, and Nebraska kept the pressure on with RBI hits from Case Sanderson, Joshua Overbeek and Jeter Worthley. Mac Moyer also came through twice, driving in a run with a double in the third before getting hit by a pitch to force in another run during the sixth. Drew Grego finished 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored, while Overbeek went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Moyer was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Worthley drove in two runs, Sanderson and Trey Fikes each had two hits, and Nebraska piled up 15 hits without an error.
Carson Jasa started for Nebraska and allowed four runs over 4.2 innings in a no-decision. Colin Nowaczyk earned the win and improved to 3-1, Tucker Timmerman worked three innings and gave up one run, and Pryce Bender finished a scoreless ninth. Minnesota answered Nebraska’s sixth-inning burst with a two-RBI double in the bottom half and finished with seven runs on eight hits and one error.
The result gave Nebraska a strong start in the opening game of the series and helped push the Huskers further into position for a Big Ten tournament bye. Nebraska entered the day at 39-14 overall and 21-7 in the Big Ten, while Minnesota came in at 30-21 and 11-17 in conference play. The teams were set to continue the series Friday at 5 p.m. on BTN.
