Glen Powell said he passed on a role in Jurassic World Rebirth because he did not feel it was the best fit for him, even though he loves the Jurassic franchise. The actor also pointed to a possible future for his animated character Dave, saying Dave would be the perfect character to interact with Zora Bennett.
Powell voices Dave in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, the Netflix animated series that follows a group of teenagers and the camp counselors who look after them. Dave appears across multiple seasons, and after five seasons he was left alive, a detail that matters because the franchise keeps finding ways to let characters move between corners of the Jurassic world.
The timing of Powell’s remarks lands as Jurassic World Rebirth arrives in 2025 with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, and as the franchise continues to build toward what is expected to become a fifth movie in the Jurassic World branch. That branch began in 2015, after the original Jurassic Park trilogy gave the series its first chapter and the story later expanded into two Netflix shows, including Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
Powell’s comments also sharpen the way the franchise has been casting across formats. Dave is not one of the main characters in Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, but the fact that an animated role can potentially translate into live action leaves the door open for a character like him to resurface. The role Powell was offered in Jurassic World Rebirth was most likely Dr. Henry Loomis, though he chose not to take it.
That leaves Powell in an unusual place: close to the franchise, but not inside the new film. He has made clear he wanted to protect the fit of the part rather than force himself into it, while still signaling that he would welcome a bigger Jurassic return if the character and the story lined up. For now, the answer to whether Powell will join the live-action side of the saga is no, but the answer to whether he could re-enter it later is still very much yes.
