Killeen Independent School District swore in Marvin Rainwater and Brett E. Williams this week after the May 2 school board election, giving both men another three-year term on the board. The oath was administered Tuesday by Diana Weaver after the district certified the results and the board moved quickly into leadership selections.
A committee made up of Rodney Gilchrist, Brenda Adams and Susan Jones met at 5 p.m. Tuesday to canvass the vote before the 6 p.m. workshop meeting, where Jones announced the official results. Rainwater won the Place 4 seat and Williams won Place 5, defeating their challengers in a race that drew six candidates for two board seats.
Williams, who has served on the board since 2018, said he was humbled by the support and ready to get back to work. He said he would not be satisfied until every child is learning to the maximum potential and told voters not to let the issues raised during the campaign fade now that the election is over.
Rainwater has served on the board since 2014, making him one of its longest-serving members. With the election settled, the board then turned to its officer lineup and unanimously approved Williams as president and Adams as secretary. Oliver Mintz was nominated as the new vice president, replacing Jones, who stepped down from that post.
Jones said she thought Mintz would do a lovely job and said she had total faith in all of her board members. The vote left the district with its two winning incumbents back in place and its leadership roster settled for the next term, after a campaign that Williams said should keep the board focused on the issues that surfaced before Election Day.
