More than 40 flights were cancelled across Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester on 14 May, with departures on , , , easyJet and pulled from schedules as disruption spread through major UK airports.

Flight-tracking data and passenger rights monitoring services recorded a sharp surge in cancellations, and dozens of departures vanished from airport boards within a matter of hours. The affected journeys included services to New York, Toronto, Calgary, Mumbai, Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin, adding another wave of uncertainty for travellers moving through the country’s busiest hubs.

British Airways and American Airlines services between London and New York JFK were among those hit, alongside Air Canada and WestJet flights bound for Toronto and Calgary. Routes linking the UK with Mumbai also suffered cancellations and schedule changes, while flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester to Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin were disrupted as well.

The cancellations came as Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester were still dealing with weeks of disruption before the peak summer holiday season, keeping pressure on passengers and airlines at the same time. The wider strain has already left travellers stranded in earlier spring incidents, with long-haul routes among the hardest hit.

Operational pressures, aircraft shortages and crew availability problems have continued to weigh on the aviation sector, leaving airlines and airports with little room for error as passenger numbers rise through June and July. For travellers, the latest cancellations were not an isolated glitch but another sign that the system is still fragile, and that the run-up to summer is likely to stay volatile.
