Connecticut flags will be lowered to half staff on Friday for , with Gov. ordering the tribute from sunrise to sunset at the Connecticut State Capitol building and all other state-operated buildings, grounds and facilities statewide.

Lamont said officers should be commended for their commitment to public safety and their willingness to put themselves in the path of danger to protect strangers.

“There’s not a single person in our state whose life has not been impacted in some way by a police officer, whether they know it or not,” Lamont said, adding that the state honors and salutes every law enforcement officer who has given their life in the line of duty. Lamont also acknowledged the families of law enforcement officers, saying they make many sacrifices during a loved one’s service and especially when a loved one is lost in the line of duty. The state encouraged everyone else to lower flags as well, making the observance a public gesture of remembrance that extends beyond state buildings and into communities across Connecticut.

Peace Officers Memorial Day is meant to recognize sacrifice that often goes unseen until it is lost. Friday’s order makes that remembrance visible at the State Capitol and throughout the state, and it is the clearest acknowledgment yet that Connecticut wants the day observed not just as ceremony, but as a statewide act of respect.
