Jaren Hall retired from the NFL on Wednesday, ending a short professional career that began when Minnesota picked him in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He made the announcement in a post on his personal Instagram account.
Hall, 28, wrote that there was a lot he could say, but mostly he felt grateful. He added that his heart was full as he closed this chapter and finished his football career, saying the game had given him more than he could ever give back.
His exit closes the book on a run that never really got traction. Hall started two games for the Vikings in his rookie season in 2023, and neither start went well. Even so, some people around him thought he could develop into a solid backup in Minnesota, especially with Kevin O'Connell's reputation for getting the most out of quarterbacks on his roster.
The timing makes the decision more abrupt. Hall was drafted only in 2023 and was still early in the sort of career that usually buys a young quarterback time to settle in, learn and wait for another opening. Instead, he stepped away on his own terms, before the next chapter could even form.
What remains is a brief but clear NFL story: a fifth-round pick, two starts and a retirement announcement that left gratitude, not regret, as the final word.
