Dan + Shay have started dangling a new album in front of fans, posting a collection of photos and videos on Instagram on Tuesday, May 5, that stitched together selfies, studio snapshots, brief clips of the pair working on new music and a few live moments from the road. The duo capped the post with a simple promise: “The album is coming!”
The teaser mixed the polished and the casual. Alongside selfies taken by Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, the post included a cover of Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Goin Down,” a recent performance with Christian artist Brandon Lake and a crowd singalong moment from Stagecoach, giving fans a quick look at where the duo has been while hinting at where they may be headed next.
Smyers added fuel in the comments, writing that “it’s our best album yet,” a line that landed as the clearest sign so far that the pair are building toward a full release rather than simply dropping another single. As of Wednesday morning, May 6, they had not confirmed any additional details about the album or a tour, leaving the post to do the work of announcement without actually naming a date.
That matters because Dan + Shay have not released a studio album since Bigger Houses, their 12-track record that arrived in September 2023. Bigger Houses was the duo’s first project after they nearly quit music because of intense burnout, and it marked a reset point with songs including “Breakin’ Up With a Broken Heart,” “Save Me The Trouble,” “Heartbreak On The Map,” “Always Gonna Be,” “We Should Get Married” and the title track.
The new tease follows another recent sign that the duo is entering a busy stretch. Dan + Shay released “Say So” last month, a song they wrote with David Hodges and Jimmy Robbins and co-produced with Scott Hendricks. They described it as a true story about a friend they lost not long ago, and they paired the release with a music video that carried a suicide prevention message and the line, “If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide + Crisis Lifeline.”
That song already pointed to a more personal chapter for the pair, and the new Instagram post seems to sharpen that signal without explaining it. Between the studio footage, the live clips and Smyers’ comment, the message was not subtle: Dan + Shay are not only working again, they are framing whatever comes next as a major step forward after a stretch defined by recovery and careful rebuilding.
The timing also fits the way the duo has been rolling out music in recent years. They delivered a double holiday album in 2024, then debuted a new Christmas song and a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Back To December” in 2025. This latest post, though, was the first clear sign that a new full-length project may be arriving after Bigger Houses, and for now the only firm takeaway is the one they chose to put on the screen themselves: the album is coming.
