Survivor 50 is heading into its last stretch with one more fan vote still to come, and the outcome will not be known until the season’s live finale on Wednesday, May 20. Jeff Probst said the nature of the final vote will be unveiled in Episode 12, which airs Wednesday, May 13 on CBS, with the results held for the three-hour live finale.
Probst said there is “one very fun final fan vote” that will be announced during the penultimate episode and then revealed at the finale, and he added that the show will use the entire three hours as one continuous live event. The network plans to check in with players throughout the night before building to the live winner reveal at the end.
The vote lands at a moment when the season is already carrying more weight than most recent editions. Survivor 50 will award $2 million to the winner, double the $1 million prize from Season 40, Winners at War, and the first season since then to reach that level. The players have Jimmy Donaldson and Rick Devens to thank for the bigger prize, a change that gives this installment a sharper edge than a standard returnee season.
The live finale also marks a return to a format the show has not used since Season 39, Island of the Idols. CBS and Probst are bringing back a live audience and a live winner reveal after years without one, and the season already used an In the Hands of the Fans vote to determine that the finale itself would happen live. Probst said the energy was obvious once the production moved onto the Paramount lot and started setting up stages, a sign that the show is treating the night as more than just a finale and reunion folded together.
There is another wrinkle behind the scenes: Season 51 is filming now. That means the decision rolling out in Episode 12 is not just a final piece of audience participation for Survivor 50, but part of a franchise that is already moving on while this season’s last public choice is still waiting to be counted. The final fan vote will be announced next week, and the winner will be revealed in front of a live audience eight days later.
