The draw left Benfica unbeaten in 48 Primeira Liga matches, with 37 wins and 11 draws, but it also left them needing help if they are to finish above Sporting.
The numbers still say Benfica travel as the stronger side. They have scored two or more goals in 12 of their last 13 league matches, have kept only two clean sheets in their last 10 outings, and have won 11 of their 16 away league games this season. Nicolas Otamendi is back from suspension, Richard Rios has also returned, and Pavlidis could lead the attack again after taking his league tally to 22 goals.
Estoril, meanwhile, have little left to play for in the table but plenty to protect in reputation. They are ninth, already safe from relegation and 10 points above the playoff spot, yet still only 14 points off the top five and clinging to a top-half finish on head-to-head and goal difference over the sides directly below them. They drew 1-1 at Alverca last weekend, when Andre Lacximicant equalised two minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute, but that was still their seventh match without a win.
The home form is a sharper concern. Estoril have conceded first in each of their last five matches, have scored only seven times across their last 10 games, and have lost each of their last three home matches at Coimbra da Mota. They are winless in four home matches there, have conceded 54 league goals overall, and have lost their last eight league meetings with Benfica.
That leaves the final day with a clear edge and a clear burden. Benfica need to win and hope Sporting drop points to salvage second place, while Estoril are trying to close a season that already guaranteed safety with something sturdier than another home defeat. The gap between the two teams has been plain for weeks, and Saturday is asking whether Benfica can keep their run alive when it matters most, or whether their title chase settles for a finish that looked better a month ago than it does now.
