PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium are adding Red Dead Redemption 2 and Star Wars Outlaws on May 19, giving subscribers two of the biggest recent console games without paying extra. The lineup also includes Bramble: The Mountain King, The Thaumaturge, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, Broken Sword – Shadows of the Templar: Reforged and Enotria: The Last Standard Edition, while Premium members get Time Crisis.
For Red Dead Redemption 2, the catch is familiar: the version arriving on PlayStation Plus is the PS4 edition, and the game still does not have a current-gen performance patch. That means subscribers will be able to play Rockstar’s 2018 western on PS4 or PS5, but not in a native upgraded version that fans have been waiting for since rumors first began years ago. Red Dead Online is included with the game.
Star Wars Outlaws brings a very different kind of draw. Released in 2024, it was billed as the first-ever open-world Star Wars game and follows Kay Vess, an aspiring scoundrel who gets tangled with several galaxy crime syndicates. Ubisoft’s space adventure had patches after launch that made it more fun to play than it was at release, and its arrival on PS Plus Extra and Premium gives it a second life with a much wider audience.
The May 19 update also gives Premium subscribers Time Crisis, the 1997 classic on-rails light gun shooter, as part of the classics catalog on PS4 and PS5. It supports gyro aiming, a small but useful nod for players who want a more modern way to handle the old arcade-style action.
The bigger picture is simple: Sony is using one update to cover two different kinds of demand. One is nostalgia, with a long-requested blockbuster western and a retro shooter. The other is freshness, with a 2024 Star Wars release and a batch of newer indie and mid-tier games.
