Le Mans Vs Monaco: Filipe Luis demands sharper Monaco display before Sunday

Filipe Luis wants Monaco to arrive at Le Mans with more bite. Ahead of Sunday’s Ligue 1 trip, the coach said his side must be much better on the ball, press better and win more duels if they are to find the level he expects from them.

The match, set for 17:15 on matchday 10, is drawing attention because Monaco need a league response fast. They have just beaten Nordsjaelland 2-0 in the Conference League, making it three wins from three in the competition, but that sits alongside a 3-1 loss at Paris FC on matchday nine that exposed how quickly their domestic form can swing.

Luis said he wants a side with a defined identity, one that competes and presses high. He linked the uneven results to a very young squad, new arrivals and the different demands that come with playing at home and away, saying the work now is as much about mentality as it is about tactical approach. For a team trying to stay in touch with the domestic top three, the margin for another flat league performance is already getting smaller.

That is why Sunday matters beyond the standings. Le Mans have lost three of four since the last international break, but Luis still described them as a side that presses high, stays defensively solid and is comfortable on the ball. Monaco, meanwhile, remain without Stanis Idumbo, who has a psoas issue, and Ansu Fati, who is out with a thigh problem, so the coach’s call for more control and more aggression comes with fewer options to reshape the game if it turns messy.

The message is plain enough: Monaco’s European rhythm is real, but it will not count for much unless it starts to show in Ligue 1. Sunday’s trip to Le Mans is the next test of whether Luis’s team can turn promising spells into a more stable league run.
