Alcorn State comes back to Jack Spinks–Marino Casem Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 7, with Florida A&M on the schedule and a chance to keep the home run going. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., and the Braves enter at 5-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The timing matters because Jaylon Tolbert has turned this offense into one of the most productive passing attacks in the FCS. Through nine games, he ranked No. 1 nationally with 2,681 passing yards and led the country with 27 touchdown passes, completing 187 of 288 throws while accounting for 30 total touchdowns. He has topped 300 yards in five games, delivered a career-best 485-yard outing against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and threw five touchdown passes against Miles, Grambling State and Prairie View A&M. In the season opener against Miles, he went 25 of 28 for 265 yards, five touchdowns and a rushing score.
That production gives Alcorn State a clear edge in how it wants to attack Florida A&M, especially with the Braves trying to stretch a home winning streak to four games. The matchup also carries a sharp memory: Alcorn State lost 33-28 to Florida A&M earlier in the season, and Tolbert still managed to account for all three of its touchdowns. He went 18 of 26 for 178 yards and two scores without an interception, then led the Braves on the ground with 57 yards on seven carries, including a 31-yard touchdown run.
That loss showed how close the teams were, but it also left Alcorn State with a direct measure of what has to change. Florida A&M did enough in that meeting to leave the Braves chasing the game, even as Tolbert kept them alive. Now the same quarterback returns home with better numbers, a cleaner record and a chance to make the rematch matter more than the first meeting did.
For Alcorn State, Saturday is not just another conference date. It is the next test of whether Tolbert's season-long surge can carry a team that has already shown it can win at home into a stronger finish in the SWAC.
