Kyler Beaty set to play as Iowa State Vs Baylor arrives Saturday

Kyler Beaty will play in Saturday’s Homecoming game against Iowa State after Baylor took him off the availability report on Saturday morning. The cornerback had been listed as probable earlier in the week, but his status changed before kickoff, giving Baylor another option in the secondary.

That matters because Baylor still enters Iowa State Vs Baylor with five players ruled out, the same group it was missing against UCF. Jamarion Richardson and Jacob Redding are among them, so Beaty’s return helps, but it does not erase the depth problem. Baylor used Beaty behind Devon Jordan and LeVar Thornton Jr. last season, and his presence gives the defense another body for a first home game in charge for Joe Klanderman.

The timing is useful for Baylor, which is 5-3 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 play after a 41-9 win at UCF. That victory came in Klanderman’s debut as interim head coach, when Baylor held UCF to 215 passing yards, gave up two third-down conversions on 15 attempts and piled up 503 yards of its own. Saturday is the next step, and a win would make Baylor bowl eligible with three games left.

There is still a small mystery in the move. Baylor did not explain why Beaty was removed from the report after being listed as probable earlier in the week, only that he will be available on Saturday. The practical answer is on the field: Baylor gets one more cornerback back, but it is still carrying the same injuries and absences that shaped the last game.

That is why Beaty’s status change is the headline for Saturday, not just another line on an availability report. Baylor can use the boost, and if it turns the return into another win, the rest of the season suddenly looks different.
