Oklahoma will be without Keeley Parks for the entire 2026-27 season after the guard suffered a non-contact knee injury in practice last week and now needs surgery. The announcement came just hours before the Sooners were set to tip off against North Carolina in Paris, turning what should have been a season-opening day into a setback that changes the roster before the first game even starts.
Jennie Baranczyk said the program is heartbroken for Parks and added that she worked hard all offseason to be ready for the year, only to see her season end before it began. Parks was already in Paris with the team and will travel back before the operation, but the injury removes a transfer guard Oklahoma expected to count on after she arrived from Kansas this offseason.
That is what makes the loss sting. Parks did not even get to play in Oklahoma's lone exhibition game before the opener, so the transfer from the Kansas Jayhawks never had a chance to show how she fit into the rotation. At Kansas, she averaged 5.1 points in 16.8 minutes per game, shot 33.9 percent from three and ranked fifth on the team in made threes, numbers that suggested she could give Oklahoma steady minutes and some shooting depth right away.
The comparison is hard to avoid because Oklahoma has seen how quickly a knee injury can wipe out a season. Leah Macy redshirted her entire initial freshman season, the 2025-26 campaign, after a severe knee injury that required major surgery. Parks' case is different in the details, but the result is the same for the player and the program: one practice in last week, and a whole season gone before it ever begins.
Baranczyk said Parks is a competitor and that the program will be behind her through the recovery. The only question that remains is the one Oklahoma has not answered yet: how long it will take before Parks is ready to play again after the surgery.
