Kings Vs Mavericks: Kyrie Irving downgraded as Dallas hosts Sacramento

The Dallas Mavericks got a new injury wrinkle on Monday afternoon when Kyrie Irving was downgraded to doubtful for their home game against the Sacramento Kings. Dallas had two full days off after beating the Houston Rockets on Friday night, but Irving still moved in the wrong direction ahead of Monday night’s matchup.

That matters because the Mavericks enter at 4-2 and are trying to stretch a win streak to four games, while Sacramento comes in 0-6 and searching for its first victory. The Kings also have multiple names on the injury report, with Zach LaVine listed as questionable because of elbow inflammation and Maxine Raynaud, Keegan Murry and Ben Simmons ruled out.

Dallas’ own report was not clean either. Dereck Lively, Sergio De Larrea and Tarik Biberovic were out for the Mavericks, and Santi Aldama also was listed as doubtful, leaving both sides without a full group on a night when availability could shape the game as much as form.

The timing is what stands out. A team that had two complete days to recover after Friday’s 116-111 win over Houston, a result tied to Cooper Flagg, Irving and Dusty May in the NBA Cup Group Play context, still could not clear Irving for certainty. That is the kind of update that usually changes the feel of a game before it is even tipped.

Sacramento’s situation is just as stark. The Memphis Grizzlies beat the Kings by nearly 30 points on Halloween, and the record that followed has kept pressure on every trip to the floor. Dallas, by contrast, has a chance to build on a strong start, but the question now is whether Irving moves from doubtful to active before Monday night or whether the Mavericks have to take on the Kings without him.
