Villa Vie Residences suspended operations in Cambodia on Oct. 27, 2026, saying it is pursuing restructuring and recapitalization after fuel costs rose far beyond what its current model can absorb. The company said it is working with residents to coordinate disembarkation and temporary living arrangements while it tries to stabilize the business.

The move lands now because the cost shock is no longer a margin problem but a survival problem. Villa Vie said fuel that once averaged about $1,800 a month has recently climbed to an estimated $6,000 to $8,000 in parts of Asia, a jump it said cannot simply be passed on to residents. That has left the company with an operating shortfall and financial pressure it says is no longer sustainable.

To blunt the blow, Villa Vie said it had already taken significant steps to reduce fuel consumption after the conflict began in late February, including slowing the itinerary and spending more time in port. Even so, it said those measures did not offset the higher costs and it could not continue carrying the resulting losses. The company said its focus now is on supporting residents, crew and employees while it works toward restructuring and recapitalization over the next 60 days.

The suspension also underlines the strain on the company’s long-term residential cruise model as it operates in Asia. Villa Vie said no financing or transaction has been finalized, which means the next two months will decide whether the company can secure a workable reset or is forced to keep operating under stopgap conditions. It also said it will provide further updates as material developments occur, while Legacy, its second residential cruise ship, remains expected to enter service in early 2029.
