Stade rennais will now face Nice on Friday 30 October 2026 at 19h, after the match was brought forward from its original Saturday slot. The club’s home meeting with Olympiakos was also moved, shifting from Thursday 5 November 2026 at 18h45 to Wednesday 4 November 2026 at 16h30.
Franck Haise addressed the changes on Thursday and made clear he was not looking for excuses. He said he did not want to complain about one less training session or about playing in the afternoon, adding that there were far more serious things than moving a football match and that football should take second place in that context.
That reaction matters because the changes were not routine adjustments. The Nice kickoff was changed at the request of the Préfecture des Alpes-Maritimes, while the Olympiakos date was blocked by the Préfecture d’Ille-et-Vilaine for security reasons. The revised week leaves Stade rennais preparing for one league match and one European match on a tighter schedule than planned, with the second game now set for an early-afternoon start.
Haise did not hide the part that hurts most. He said the changes are more annoying for supporters, and that another option would have been to play abroad. He also framed the issue in sporting terms, saying football is meant to create good emotions, but that the people who turn up should still enjoy themselves and give the team strength.
That is where the problem sits. The club has announced a ticketing policy aimed at young supporters and amateur clubs to encourage attendance, but a Wednesday 16h30 kickoff will still make it harder for many people to get to Roazhon Park after work or school. The security logic explains the decision, yet it also leaves the club with a match time that will inevitably thin the crowd. What Stade rennais can do next is limited to making the best of the crowd it gets on Wednesday.
