Konyaspor Vs Galatasaray: league leaders defend top spot in round 10

Galatasaray go to Konyaspor on Friday with the Turkish Super Lig lead still in their hands, but only just. The champions moved to 22 points after beating Fenerbahce 2-1 on Monday, and now they must carry that momentum into round 10 while protecting a two-point lead over second-placed Amed SK.

That is why Konyaspor Vs Galatasaray is drawing attention now. Galatasaray have won their last three league matches and are on a three-match winning run in all competitions, yet this is not a ground that has treated them kindly. They lost 2-0 on their most recent visit to Konyaspor and have suffered four defeats in their last six trips there, a record that gives Friday’s fixture a sharper edge than the table alone suggests.

The recent form on both sides is clear enough. Victor Osimhen scored twice against Fenerbahce to keep Galatasaray perfect enough at the top, while Konyaspor arrive after beating Genclerbirligi 2-0 and ending a run of three league matches without a win. They sit 14th with eight points from nine games, but their home work has improved: they drew 0-0 with Istanbul Basaksehir, beat Trabzonspor 1-0, and have kept clean sheets in all three of their recent home matches after losing their opening two home games.

Ugurcan Yazgili is part of that improvement. He recovered from a muscle injury and played seven minutes in the previous match, while Chidozie Awaziem scored both goals against Genclerbirligi and is expected to keep his place in central defence alongside Rayyan Baniya. Konyaspor will be without Adil Demirbag because of a cruciate ligament injury, but they do have a back line that has started to settle at home.

Galatasaray’s selection questions are less settled. Abdulkerim Bardakci was referred to the disciplinary committee on a precautionary basis after the post-match confrontation with Fenerbahce, so his availability is still a live issue for Friday. Wilfried Singo is another concern after playing only two minutes against Fenerbahce as he returned from a thigh injury. If he is asked to start, it would be a quick turnaround after that brief appearance; if not, Okan Buruk has to reshuffle a defence that has been under little pressure in the league but is about to face a side that has grown harder to break down at home.

For Galatasaray, the trip is about holding position rather than making one. For Konyaspor, it is a chance to turn a strong home spell into a result that would reset their season, and the answer may depend as much on Bardakci and Singo as on the form lines that brought both clubs here.
